PDO has an even greater presence in the natural gas sector in Oman than in the oil sector, accounting for substantially all
of Oman’s natural gas supply along with small contributions from Occidental Petroleum and Thailand’s PTTEP. The
government enlists foreign companies in new exploration and production projects, offering terms for developing fields
that require the sophisticated technology and expertise of the private sector.
Natural gas consumption rose rapidly over the past decade, increasing by 176.7% from 2001 to a total of 619.4 Bcf in
2011. This increase is largely attributable to economic expansion and population growth.
