Since taking on the Service Agreement in 2006, Medco has undertaken extensive
development drilling in KSF. Two rigs have been operating and more than 200 new wells
have been drilled, many of them horizontal. Oil production rate rose from approximately
11,000 bopd in 2006 to a peak of over 20,000 bopd in 2012.
A water injection project began in the Simsim field in January, 2013, with an injection rate
of approximately 3,000 bwpd increasing to 7,500 bwpd by end 2013 and to 15,000 bwpd
in 2014. A polymer injection pilot in Simsim field is also planned. A cyclic steam
stimulation (CSS) pilot project began in Basma field in September, 2013.
