in which the Group operates. As part of its sustainability focused business, the Group has committed to measure and
report on its overall performance in environmental and social responsibility.
Specific CSR Activities
The Group’s specific CSR activities incorporate humanitarian assistance and a wide array of community initiatives
within the Group’s areas of operations. Recent activities have included donations to charities, financial support to
minority groups and the economically disadvantaged, educational campaigns especially in terms of health awareness, the
organisation of cultural days and selected care sponsorship. Below are certain recent examples of certain of the Group’s
CSR activities.
Egypt
In Egypt, the Group undertook various activities in 2014, including most recently a free technical training session to
thirty students associated with Suez University and Benha University and a one month training session for two students
following a presentation competition between students from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Also in
Egypt in 2014, the Group sponsored student magazines for the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of
Exploration Geophysicists (“
SEG
”) and arranging a site visit for SEG students to learn about health and safety
procedures. The Group also paved the roads for public use in front of its offices in Cairo’s Maadi district.
In Ras Gharib, the Group has helped individuals in the local community to start their own micro-projects, which
involved the provision of equipment and merchandise to enable the start of small businesses and the development of
entrepreneurial skills. During the holy month of Ramadan, for the second consecutive year, Kuwait Energy distributed
350 food bags, containing essential food products, to underprivileged members of the Ras Gharib community.
In past years, the Group has worked to renovate the hygienic infrastructure of certain schools in Ras Gharib, Egypt,
replacing substandard water tanks with bottled water and cleaner water tanks to guarantee students receive a clean
supply. The Group also rebuilt school bathrooms and provided them with fire extinguisher equipment and special
training.
The Group also participated in a blood donation campaign organised by Egypt’s National Blood Transfusion Center,
aimed at helping wounded victims of the January 2011 revolution.
Iraq
In Iraq in 2014, the Group invited Iraqi female top honours students studying petroleum engineering for an internship at
the Group’s office in Kuwait, which included workshops and presentations conducted by various departments within the
Group.
Also in Iraq, in 2013, the Group launched a micro-financing initiative in partnership with the Sana Organisation for
Children’s and Women’s Rights with a goal of equipping women with sewing skills that would enable them to pursue a
stable lifestyle.
Yemen
In Yemen, the Group has supported the AMAR International Charitable Foundation in its first steps into the Republic of
Yemen. AMAR International Charitable Foundation is widely known in the Arabian Peninsula for its 20 years of work
with the governments of the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Lebanon. The Group is a Founder Member of
AMAR’s sister organisation, the IBBC, which is a charitable company that promotes business, education and training
throughout the region. The Yemen initiative aims to help reduce maternal and child mortality in the community through
preventative medicine and vaccinations, to decrease the cases of common preventable diseases, and to provide paid work
opportunities to local employees.
Additionally, the Group is currently working on a project to supply electricity to areas in the vicinity of Block 5 in order
to foster good relations with the local community.
Industrial Relations
Whilst the Group generally enjoys good labour relations with its employees, the Group’s operations may be affected by
strikes, lock-outs or labour disruptions involving its employees and the employees of third parties, including employees
of JV partners retained to carry out the Group’s exploration plans.
